Privacy Policy

The short version: your audio and your transcripts never leave your computer. The app has no accounts, no analytics, and no telemetry. It uses the internet for three things only: downloading a transcription model the first time you need one, activating your licence, and checking whether a new version exists. This website counts page visits, without cookies and without identifying you — see This website below.

Who this is from

Vocal Slice is made and sold by Wesley Scott, trading as Vocal Slice, based in the United Kingdom. If you have a question about anything here, email wesley@vocalslice.com.

Your audio and transcripts

Vocal Slice transcribes and slices audio entirely on your own machine. Audio files you open, the transcripts produced from them, and the clips you export are never uploaded, transmitted, or seen by anyone but you. There is no server involved in processing your recordings, and no copy of them is sent anywhere.

When the app uses the internet

There are only three occasions, and none of them sends your audio:

Aside from these, the app makes no network requests. It does not check in, report usage, or send crash reports automatically.

What is stored on your computer

Everything Vocal Slice saves stays in your own user-data folder on your machine, under your control:

You can clear the session data at any time from Settings → Storage → Clear Session Data, and delete cached models from the same panel.

Diagnostics and logs

The app keeps an activity log to help troubleshoot problems. This log stays on your computer and is never sent anywhere automatically. If you choose to copy or save a diagnostics report and send it to us for support, you are sending it deliberately — and you can read exactly what it contains before you do.

Buying a licence

Purchases are handled by Polar, which acts as the merchant of record. That means Polar processes the payment and collects the details needed to do so — your email address, billing information, and payment method. We never see or store your card details. We receive your email address and licence details so we can provide support and manage your licence.

Polar's handling of that data is covered by their own privacy policy at polar.sh/legal/privacy.

This website

This site is static and hosted on GitHub Pages. It sets no cookies, embeds no third-party fonts, and carries no advertising or cross-site tracking pixels. Nothing here follows you to other websites, and nothing here is linked to you as a person.

It does measure how many people visit, using Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless. That records the sort of thing a web server log would: which page was viewed, roughly where in the world the request came from, which site referred it, and the kind of browser and device. It does not store an identifier for you, does not follow you between visits, and cannot be used to work out who you are. Cloudflare processes this on our behalf; see their privacy policy. We use it to understand which pages people find useful and whether the site works on the devices people actually have.

The app is a separate matter — it sends no telemetry of any kind, and your audio never leaves your computer. Nothing measured here comes from the app.

As with any web host, GitHub may record standard server access information such as IP addresses; see GitHub's privacy statement. Clicking a buy link takes you to Polar's checkout, which is subject to their policy.

Hearing about new versions

The app checks for its own updates, so you don't need to sign up for anything to stay current.

If you'd also like to hear by email, there is an optional list you can join from the signup form on the home page. It collects your email address and nothing else, uses double opt-in (you confirm via a link before anything is sent), and every email includes an unsubscribe link. It's low-volume — new releases, plus the occasional Vocal Slice update or offer. It is delivered by Buttondown, who process your address on our behalf as our email provider. Buying Vocal Slice does not add you to this list; it's entirely separate and opt-in.

Your rights

Because the app collects nothing, there is generally no personal data of yours for us to hold. The exception is purchase-related information from Polar, and any email you send us. Under UK GDPR you can ask us to provide, correct, or delete that information — just email wesley@vocalslice.com and we'll deal with it.

Children

Vocal Slice is a professional tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date at the top. If a change ever meaningfully affects how your data is handled, we'll say so plainly rather than quietly editing the page.
